This is just a small selection of tit bits for MY Linux system that will proberly not apply to you !! Second HDD (Fat32, created and filled by win98) on the Primary Slave IDE cable is seen as /dev/hdb1 and my mount line in /etc/fstab is /dev/hdb1 /hdb1 vfat user, noauto 0 0 (I had created a mount point directory /hdb1) so all I have to do is mount /hdb1 Second CDROM (non writer, but has the CD audio cable to the sound card) on Secondary Slave IDE cable is seen as /dev/hdd1 I simply had to tell any CD audio programs not to look at /CDROM or /dev/cdrom and also make sure my user had permission by adding them to the cd audio group. Found USB pen drive worked straight away, appears as /dev/sda1 a SCSI interface now I can easily transfer data from non networked windows machines :) KDEs screen saver module has the option of xscreensaver which has literally hundreds of ready to go eye candy ! But, you only find out how to use it IF you read the KDE help carefully. The major problem here is all the TEST buttons work fine and I had everything ready it would just not work, or worse xscreensaver would kick in sometimes (when I had hit the button Restart Xscreensaver). After setting up xscreensaver and setting ITS timeout and rotation options DISABLE KDEs screen saver, don't ask, it works !! I major booboo'ed when I failed to add a boot partition, if I have to recompile the kernel (and at the mo I am VERY impressed with the stock options(with what I selected at install)) it may not be loadable from LILO or any other boot loader :(
