Considering I do not promote my site in the least I was surprised to get and email from the one and only http://nehe.gamedev.net/ who likes not only lego but my topBlock hack http://www.jumpstation.co.uk/xscreensaver/topblock/ which gives me little more persuasion to continue after the lack of response by others.

I have been playing Halo2 after I failed to cancel the second year of X-Box live and even though I was winning no games I still managed to level up to 11, it was then I saw that an old work colleague was on 24 :(
Well I had not played online for about 6 months.

Speaking of automation, our windows laptop that Sarah uses wirelessly sometimes fails to get a IP setting for Default Gateway and can not access the internet (but sometimes does).
So I was surprised and a little taken aback when I found window 2000 and XP have a command netsh which will allow you to set the settings from the command prompt or in my case a script.
I have completed Half-Life 2 in the Xbox, very very good game, it did say I had clocked up 980 mins but I guess that does not take in to account my perfectionist streak reloading levels over and over to get them just right.
One thing that stands out about this game is the way it rewards players that make it through and the min animation at the end of the credits was a nice touch.
The ending was a bit week, but I can not complain as in the last set of levels you have control of a gun that will pick up the enemy and hurl them around, very satisfying.

I have been looking at http://www.mingw.org as a way of porting the http://www.jumpstation.co.uk/xscreensaver/topblock/ screensaver to windows while avoiding Micro$ofts Visual studio.
I will post a short HOWTO shortly.
There was a billing error for the http://www.pay4foss.org/ domain, but nobody told me about it until I asked, but that should be back soon.
Now to get back to half-life 2 ...
Oh, very quickly I have written a quick script that hassles my ADSL modem to re-establish the connection, now I just need to build script to call it from a cron job.
If have a MSI GS8100 ADSL modem and would like the script just email me.

I have been ill (flu) most of last week, proper stay in bed flu, but it did give me time to catch up on some Anime DVDs.
I watched Rune soldier vols 2-4 which I enjoyed and I will be on the look out for the last two volumes, a fun anime with a good mix of everything, slightly generic.
I really liked the original Excel Saga DVDs for there bizarre self parody and bonkers plot, so I looked forward to getting the follow up PuniPuni Poemy, but was ultimately disappointed, to weird and above all else to perverted, not funny, not clever I can see why they only managed two episodes.
Over the weekend I have been playing a lot of Half Life 2, this game is amazing, so much is possible with the Havok physics engine.
For instance there is a point the game where you must defend a small corridor from multiple attackers coming from various directions.
I spent 5 mins before the battle was triggered by collecting all the loose furniture, filling cabinets, barrels, tables etc and completely baricading one entrance, thus I had only to defend the other entrance.
The computer AI is also good, most of the soldiers gave up after giving the barrier a push and circled around to the other entrance, but eventually one did push his way through, but was easily dispatched.
The games changes a lot from mindless zombies, clever soldiers, squad based action and controlling a buggy, a crane and hover-craft, with lots of puzzle solving like taking the floating barrels under water and adding them to a cage that raise the ramp that you jump over with the hover-craft to get to the next section.
Nearly everything this game does is VERY good, including the story line characters and locations etc.

Well to my horror I found out why myspace did not accept the original video and at least nine people found out my I deleted this submission as quickly as I could.
Appears that all media players I have used run in LOOP mode so if the last frame is only on screen for 100th/s then it flashed by unfortunately myspace ends at the end of the video showing the last frame.
I will edit the video and try again...
Oh, I finished reading "Salt a world history" by Mark Kurlansky and I can honestly say I had no idea salt has played such a big part in history, from the ancient Chinese to the Romans from the French revelation to the US North/South war and many and much more in between.
There were a couple of the 400 odd pages that made me sleepy but on the whole it was very easy to read and interesting to boot.

Still waiting for myspace to process the video (again).

For some reason myspace screwed up on the video, new york built and destroyed in time lapse, I will try again and then use youtube or google
I was all set to get an Xbox 360 for my birthday, but after seeing it running, the lack of games and the huge initial cost plus very expensive games, I have decided to write it off. Instead I am going to start saving for the Nintendo revolution, now that looks cool !
